Adult Students on the Guy's and St Thomas' Trust Sector Work-Based Academy Programme (SWAP) at Southwark College celebrated at a special event recently.

The event featured motivational guest speakers and a recruitment fair offering students networking opportunities with local care providers.

Several students on this six-week programme secured permanent roles within the NHS. This achievement underscores the programme's effectiveness in providing people in Southwark with hands-on experience and valuable industry skills.

Jasbir Singh Gill, a Southwark College student, shared his personal journey in the SWAP programme. He said: "The SWAP programme at Southwark College has been a life-changing opportunity for me. The hands-on experience and support from the College and the teaching team have prepared me for my new role. I'm grateful for this chance to start my career in healthcare."

The SWAP programmes have a strong focus on real-world work environments and are made possible through close collaboration with industry partners, such as the Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust and the Health & Care Jobs Hub. This collaboration ensures the programme's curriculum remains relevant and impactful, providing students with a competitive edge in the job market.

Claire Reed, Assistant Principal for Skills and Adult Education, said: "The success of our SWAP programme is a testament to our students' hard work and dedication. They have embraced every opportunity and demonstrated the skills and professionalism that the NHS and the industry value. We are incredibly proud of their accomplishments and excited to see them embark on their new careers."
