NCG has joined the list of finalists for the Apprenticeship and Training Awards (ATAs) 2025, shortlisted in the “Best Use of Technology in Training” category.

Formerly known as the AAC Apprenticeship Awards, these awards celebrate innovative training, and excellence in learner support.

The nomination highlights the work that Carlisle College’s Plastering teacher Matty McLeish has done with the Information, Date and Estates Team to implement virtual environments and augmented reality, providing hands-on learning opportunities to construction students at home and in the classroom.

NCG’s Head of Learning Technology and Digital Learning, Rob Wraith said: “These innovations are designed to create a more engaging, effective, and forward-thinking apprenticeship programme. By continuously integrating cutting-edge technology, we aim to provide apprentices with the best possible training and prepare them for successful careers in the construction industry.”

Finalists were selected by a 20-strong panel of judges including Association of Employment and Learning Providers (AELP)’s CEO Ben Rowland, apprenticeship influencer Holly Hobbs, former Skills Minister Anne Milton and UCAS’ Head of Apprenticeships, Lindsay Conroy.

Shane Mann, Chief Executive of FE Week’s publisher EducationScape, said: “I know I speak on behalf of all the judges in pointing out what a tough job we had this year. We saw so many examples of great practice from employers and training organisations thinking outside the box, taking risks, and genuinely putting their learners first.”

The winners will be announced at the Apprenticeships and Training Conference gala dinner and awards evening on Tuesday 11 March in Liverpool.
