NCG is one of the UK’s leading providers of education, training and employability. Through our seven colleges, we work with businesses, stakeholders and civic partners across the country to deliver world-class training, open up employment opportunities and help employers access the next generation of skilled talent. These collaborations are key to our success.

We are committed to developing long-term, high-quality, mutual relationships to open-up employment opportunities and help employers to access the next generation of skilled talent.

Our colleges support industries with skills gaps through Skills Bootcamps, work experience and industry placements and opportunities for engagement and partnership through business events and live projects. Employers and stakeholders are engaged as co-creators in the design and sequencing of our curriculum offer, aligned to local, regional and national skills priorities including Local Skills Improvement Plans.

Our colleges also offer opportunities for those who want to invest in their workforce and address specific training needs via apprenticeships and short courses to allow upskilling to industry requirements.

Employers working with us not only benefit from access to training opportunities and skills programmes to close skills gaps and support their workforce needs, but also gain access to a future talent pool, scheme opportunities which recognise employer commitment and support advancement of business social responsibility and invites to networking and events,

Newcastle College

Newcastle College works with more than 500 businesses including locally based SMEs, large regional, national and multi-national corporations. Each curriculum area has an Employer Advisory Boards and works closely with industry leaders to address workforce development needs and develop curriculum in response.

The College also offers full-time and part-time degree-level study up to Masters level through Newcastle College University Centre, providing high-quality technical higher education that is aligned to the practical requirements of industry.

In addition, it has a broad apprenticeship offer in key industry sectors, short courses to support upskilling, Skills Bootcamps, and industry placement opportunities, as well as other ways for stakeholders to get involved.

Carlisle College

Carlisle College has strong links with local employers, working with hundreds of businesses across Cumbria. The College actively brings together local stakeholders and employers to identify the evolving skills needs across the region to help develop a curriculum to future-proof local businesses.

Carlisle College works with employers to develop and upskill workforces through apprenticeships, degrees and a range of professional short courses as well as Skills Bootcamps and ESOL courses.

Employers can also get involved by offering industry placements and work experience opportunities.

Kidderminster College has strong, well-established links with key local and regional employers.

Through employer engagement programmes, the College connects and supports local employers with the recruitment of apprentices, as well as traineeships, training courses and work experience.

The College also offers a growing range of sector-based work academy programmes and Skills Bootcamps through The Point Business Centre.

Kidderminster College works closely with employers to develop relationships that encourage strong curriculum links.

Lewisham College works closely with employers to ensure education and skills training aligns with industry needs.

The College’s Employer Advisory Boards bring together leaders from industry sectors, enabling employers to provide valuable insights to help shape the College’s curriculum, whilst industry partnerships offer students opportunities for work experience, industry visits, workshops, internships and potential employment.

Lewisham College actively supports businesses by helping them recruit apprentices and can provide training for staff, helping employers to build a skilled workforce.

As one of London's top colleges, Southwark College works closely with employers in the local area to match them with the talent of tomorrow.

Southwark College hosts regular events with employers, including business breakfasts. Employers are also invited to be part of Employer Advisory Boards which help to develop the curriculum.

The College provides sector-based work academies in partnership with local employers, and industry placements which offer a great way for businesses to connect with the future workforce and have an input into how the sector is educated.

The College provides a range of tailored training solutions, including full and part-time courses and apprenticeships, that can enhance the development and growth of a business by upskilling the workforce.

Employers can also get involved by offering work placement opportunities or delivering workshops and seminars.

National Reach

As the only national college group with seven colleges in five regions of England, NCG is uniquely placed to understand the national skills landscape and develop approaches to meaningful engagement.

Through our “One NCG” approach, colleagues share their expertise and experience through our communities of practice, our Skills Council and our governance arrangements. This means that we are continuously building an understanding of national impact and influence whilst assuring local ownership through regional visibility and engaged leadership. This, in each of our regions, drives local social value and economic impact.

The NCG Skills Plan sets out our response to the Government’s commitment to engaging employers and stakeholders as genuine partners in the skills landscape. We aim to ensure that through our college leadership teams in each region and supported by our national networks, we broaden and deepen employer, education, civic and community relationships, ensuring that each encounter builds stakeholders’ awareness and trust in each of our local colleges, informs college planning and enhances the experience of all students.

Our Skills Plan commitments help us measure and ensure that meaningful stakeholder engagement and partnership working is effective at all levels across NCG.
